Six-Year-old boy earns black belt in Karate
By Randal Yakey

Black belt in karateWATERFORD TWP., MI (The Oakland (MI) Press) April 5, 2007 - He kicks, he chops, he jumps around and he's a bundle of energy. And he just may be the next Jackie Chan . But when Logan Scott Wennesheimer isn't working on his karate moves, he can be found playing with his toys or riding up and down the sidewalk on his scooter.

Logan isn't the average karate expert. He's a black belt karate kid at the age of 6. A pupil at the Brookfield Academy Montessori School in Waterford Township, Logan said he thinks of himself a disciplined young person and hopes to go far in the world of competitive karate.

"I like karate because it's a powerful sport and you can do a lot of tricks. I love it," Logan said. "And I am the state champion."

Indeed, he is. In 2006, Logan placed first in the Spirit of Detroit Championship. He also placed first in the Michigan Sport Karate Circuit tournaments in the point competition in the 5 years old and under class.

He was Grand Champion in the 10 years old and under class and International Champion for the 5 years old and under class.

Logan has a lot in common with Tiger Woods, the pro golfer who was prompted by his father to take up golf before he could read or write. Both Tiger Woods and Logan were 2 years old when they began their careers.

Logan's mom, Angie Wennesheimer, 28, credited her husband, Brian Wennesheimer, 32, for getting Logan interested in the martial arts and teaching him what it means to stick to something.

"Logan's father got him interested in it and he really took it from there. They call Logan “Mr. Intensity," she said. "He won a world championship last year in Orlando, Fla. He has really done a lot for being so young."
